This Panama hat maker can be found in Cuenca, Ecuador on a street called Tarqui between Mariscal Sucre and the market near the river.
He wears a soft, perpetual smile which consumes his entire face – eyes, lips, cheekbones. Through my broken comprehension of Spanish, it was apparent he took great pride in the hats he makes and demonstrated how with great patience.
I just had to buy a hat from him.

Oh, what a great photo! He looks so cute! I’m pretty sure I would have bought a hat too :)

My guess is he’ll be there for another 20 years if you make it over to Ecuador in that time, and if not, his son is equally friendly and knowledgable. :) Cheers for taking the time to comment!
